Sterbai Cory Cats do best when kept in groups of 6 or more. They are an active catfish that like to search around the substrate for food. Because of this, they are best kept in tanks with sand or smooth-stone substrate, as rough substrates can damage their barbels. Their most natural behavior will be observed in an aquarium with sand as the substrate.
Cory cats prefer dim lighting, and can be kept with a wide variety of peaceful, community fish. They flourish in planted aquariums, although it is best to not keep them in planted aquariums with ground cover, as the cory cats tend to uproot these while foraging for food.
