Green Texas / Carpintis / Pearlscale Cichlid
Green Texas cichlids, or Carpintis cichlids, are often confused with Texas cichlids, however they are two distinct species. The name green Texas cichlids is a bit of a misnomer, as the range of Green Texas cichlids actually does not extend into North America! Only Texas cichlids can be found in Texas.
Carpintis cichlids are usually purchased as small juveniles, but will grow to 12" at maturity. They are a fairly aggressive fish and mated pairs are especially territorial, so it is recommended to keep them alone, as a single mated pair, or in a large aquarium with other similarly-sized aggressive cichlids.
Carpintis cichlids are sexually dimorphic; females tend to be longer-bodied than the males and feature a black blotch on their dorsal fin.
