Pictures are for reference only, there will be variations in size and color of individual animals.
Jack Dempseys are usually purchased as small juveniles, but will grow to 10"-15" at maturity. They are a fairly aggressive fish and mated pairs are especially territorial, so it is recommended to keep them alone, as a single mated pair, or in a large aquarium with other similarly-sized aggressive cichlids.
Jack Dempseys are sexually dimorphic; males grow to be larger and have very pointed dorsal and anal fins, while females stay smaller and have very rounded dorsal and anal fins.
